Computer tomography
In computer tomography, X-rays are used to generate sectional images of the patient. The X-ray tube rotates around the patient
and scans them in layers. In order to be able to examine certain organs better, in some cases, depending on the examination
region and/or indication, the doctor injects a contrast agent containing iodine into a vein. In individual cases, this can lead to a heat sensation, but this usually lasts only 2 - 3 seconds after the injection was
made.
Movements during the examination can impair the image quality and thus the doctor won´t be able to properly analyze the images.
It is therefore important that you do not move around the device during the examination and that you follow the breathing commands announced by the assistant. The time frame of an examination depends on the issue
at hand and the body region to be examined, in most cases about 30 seconds.
In May 2012, we installed a new state-of-the-art CT system, at this time the 1st one of this new generation in Austria! This low-dose CT reduces the dose routinely by up to 60%, including through innovative techniques such as iTRIM (iterative
temporal resolution improvement method).
64 detector lines with 128 layers / rotation allow a very fast examination; thus, a scope of a 50 sec examination is examined in only 5.2 sec, whereby movement distortions are reduced to a minimum
(ideal for heart imaging).
The new technology, combined with a new detector generation, ensures best image quality and the imaging of smallest details
with a high spatial resolution.
All these technical advantages ensure an efficient workflow and ultimately benefit our patients - state-of-the-art imaging, the best image quality and the lowest possible radiation exposure.

Preparation for CT colonoscopy
Foods that leave indigestible residues should be avoided 3 days before the examination. These are e. g. fibres of meat, vegetables,
fruits and nuts. Also dairy products, e. g. cheese, are digested slowly. Please don´t eat any bread.
Please only consume liquids on the day of your examination!
In case your appointment has been scheduled for the afternoon, you may however take a small breakfast.
In addition to the dietary preparation, it is very important to cleanse your colon so there will not be any residual stool
left. Please drink as much liquids as possible (3-4 litres per day) during the preparation period. You can drink liquids also on the day of your examination. However, please comply with the doctor´s recommendation about
the amount of liquids on that day.
Another essential part of the preparation are laxatives.
One day before the examination, take the medication which has been recommended by your family doctor or pharmacist as indicated in the instructions for
use.
1st Day = diet, drink plenty and take laxatives
2nd Day = examination day: drink only
PREPARATION FOR THE SPECIAL EXAMINATION CT ENTEROKLYSMA
Foods that leave indigestible residues should be avoided 3 days before the examination. These are e. g. fibres of meat, vegetables,
fruits and nuts. Also dairy products, e. g. cheese, are digested slowly. Please don't eat any bread.
In addition to dietary preparation, cleansing and washing out the intestines is extremely important. Please drink as much liquid as possible (3-4 litres per day) during the preparation period. You can drink liquids also on the day of your examination. However, please comply with the
doctor´s recommendation about the amount of liquids on that day.
- Day before examination: Diet (see above)
- Day of examination: Don't eat, only drink.
- 1,5 hours before the examination, you will be given a special drink to mark the intestine.
2-3 hours before the examination you should not eat anything, but drink plenty.
As the examination requires your written consent, we ask you to arrive 20 minutes before the scheduled appointment to fill in the consent form and a general questionnaire about your medical history (e.g. questions on previous illnesses
such as allergies, heart, kidney or thyroid diseases, as well as any possible pregnancy, etc.).
Depending on the area of the body which has to be examined, you may be asked to remove jewelry, glasses, hairpins, hearing
aids, and removable dentures.
You as a patient are laying down. While the CT is running, you as a patient will be in the examination room by yourself, the assistant will monitor during
this time and can communicate with you via intercom.
We have a CT device that leaves a lot of space for the patient. Our rooms are bright and friendly. If you still suffer from claustrophobia, you may be given a sedative for support or an
accompanying person may be with you in the examination room.
Pregnant women can´t be examined by means of a CT. If you are pregnant but have gotten a referral to a CT examination please check back with your referring doctor first. Often
there are also alternative types of examinations and diagnostics.
If you have a known contrast agent allergy to iodine-containing contrast agents, please let us know when making your appointment. Not every examination requires a contrast agent, and in some cases the
examination can still be carried out by prophylaxis.
